167 years of Jean Buscher Winery
Bechtheim’s grapevines are rooted in glacial “loess” and partially sandy, loamy soil. Due to its lightness, this soil warms quickly. It also contains a great variety of minerals.
From the beginning, the Buschers have adhered to the classical wine-making traditions long practised along the Rhine. Our guiding principle has always been to preserve the natural character of each individual wine and reveal its unique fruity aroma. Our guiding principle has always been to preserve the natural character of each individual wine and reveal its unique fruity aroma. We therefore ferment our white wines slowly in stainless steel tanks.
The process of ageing red wines in old oak casks has been perfected over the decades. Some of our hand-picked reds are aged in small young oak casks, giving them a fine barrique note. The distinguishing features of these highlights of each vintage are their subtle fragrance, dark colour, complexity and intensity.
